Easy and fun roasted sweet potato Halloween bites! A spooky and healthy kid-friendly recipe for Halloween that’s perfect for all ages. Great for babies too!
BOO! Did I scare ya? Happy *almost* Halloween, my friends! Today we are making some fun and spooky Halloween bites. Mmmm...
A kid friendly recipe for Halloween
Here's a really easy way to make a little Halloween fun for your kids and toddlers. Check it: root veggie bites! As in, roasted sweet potato cut with Halloween cookie cutters. Man, game changer, eh?
Ellis is finally old enough (he's 3) to really be into a spooky, but not scary, Halloween! These Halloween sweet potatoes are great as baby finger foods, a side dish, an appetizer, or even a little snack this time of year.

Supplies needed
You'll need to go out and get some cute Halloween cookie cutters for this one. I like the stamp kind that leave little imprints on the sweet potato.
You could also use a small sharp knife and cut your own shapes if you'd like! The cookie cutters are fun to use with toddlers though. ?
You'll also need large sharp knife to cut the sweet potato slices and a sheet pan to roast them on. I like to line the sheet pan with parchment paper for easy clean up, but it's not necessary.
Spices and seasonings
I like to use pumpkin pie spice on these sweet potato bites, but you can use any spice that you'd like! Cinnamon would be wonderful, or just keep it simple with a bit of salt and pepper.
If you're sensitive to spices, just leave them out!

How to make sweet potato Halloween bites
- First, make sure you choose the fattest orange sweet potato you can find. You want it to be fat so the bites are large enough to cut shapes into. Also, make sure you pick out an orange sweet potato! Some sweet potatoes have pale flesh, which wouldn't be as Halloweeny.
- Slice the sweet potato horizontally into thin slices.
- Mix together the spices and the coconut oil and then coat each slice with the mixture.
- Roast on a baking sheet for about 20 minutes, or until soft but not mushy.
- Let them cool a bit and then have some fun cutting Halloween shapes!
How to serve
These little bites are super versatile! You can serve them in a number of ways to Halloween-ify (totally a word) your snacks and meals.
- Have them as a snack: Kids love eating these up after cutting out their own shapes. A healthy Halloween snack for all ages.
- Festive baby finger food: Ellis absolutely loved these when he was a baby. They are mushy enough for babies to eat, but you might want to cut them up into smaller pieces if you are worried about the size.
- Serve as a Halloween side dish: Switch your up your regular potatoes or fries and serve Halloween sweet potatoes!
- Add them to an appetizer plate: These would be delicious with some cheese and crackers!

Are the cookies soft, like a brownie or after you let them cool down, are they a hard or crunchy.
Trish Bozeman
Hi! These aren't actually cookies. They are roasted sweet potato slices made to look like cookies. So they are very soft like baked sweet potato. Hope that helps!

So cute! I don't have kids at home anymore....but I'm going to add these to our Thanksgiving appetizer menu. My nieces and nephews will LOVE these and my sister will be so happy that I have a healthy option for her kids.
Lisa
It's so smart to have healthy snacks for kids and with those adorable cutouts, I think the kids would look right past the health aspect and just enjoy it as a fun snack. Your idea for pumpkin spice and cinnamon is a great one too -- just adding that touch of fall spice flavor make these sweet potato bites special. Sharing!

These sweet potato cookies are such a fun way to get your veggies in during a month that pushes so many sugar-packed sweets. I love how clean the ingredients are and the flavors look yummy! Can't wait to eat these!

Whaaaaat! These are so stinkin' cute! My little bub just started purees and is LOVING sweet potatoes, so I'm going to bookmark this for when he's on solids. Stoked that he's digging veggies thus far 🙂 Until he can eat them, I just might have to make some for myself. Haha.

This is fantastic! I wish I had this recipe when my daughter was little. Trying to get her to eat anything besides a tortilla was hard. I bet she would have loved these. Your hand model is precious btw;

Love the sound of this healthy treat. With all the other "not so healhty" things that come with the day, THIS is perfect. Fun to eat too.
Cathy
This is so adorable! What can I use in replacement for the pumpkin pie spice?
Patricia Bozeman
Thanks, Cathy! Feel free to use any spice you would normally put on sweet potato. Cinnamon or maybe just some salt and pepper. Cinnamon and a bit of maple syrup would be awesome. 🙂
