Homemade holiday coffee blend recipe! This DIY holiday blend coffee mixes warming spices with coffee and is definitely a cup of cheer.

    holiday coffee blend

Happy holidays, Rhubarbarians! It's that time of year again! The time when the Christmas tunes take over the radio stations and everyone is drinking from those red and green coffee cups. Time for Christmassy holiday coffee!

Well... we decided to embrace the season and add warming spices to our cup of Joe to make a holiday coffee blend. Get ready for a spiced, hot cup of cheer in your hand!

My husband and I had so much fun testing this recipe together. Each night, we would choose the spices to add to the brew basket of our Mr. Coffee® and the next morning we would wake up together and taste how our holiday coffee blend test had turned out.

Creating the perfect spice blend together really got us in the holiday spirit and I hope it will get you into the spirit too!

This coffee is perfect alongside a stack of festive Christmas pancakes!

    Baby, it's cold outside

Brrrrrr. The temps are dropping, which means it's the perfect time to drink more coffee!

Whether you are waking up with a freshly brewed cup, enjoying an afternoon pick-me-up, cozying up with a book or a movie, or enjoying some homemade gingerbread, coffee holds a special place in our daily lives.

We can make that cup EVEN MORE special by adding holiday spices! The flavor is subtle, but adds just a touch of holiday cheer to our coffee moments.

Make it easy with Mr. Coffee

The Mr. Coffee® 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Dishwashable Design has become our go-to coffee maker! It's easy to clean, which makes for better tasting coffee, we can program it to brew while we are waking up, and the brew basket is large!

The dishwashable design is EVERYTHING. The parts are easily disassembled and the dishwasher removes all the coffee residue. This way we get the cleanest, best tasting coffee.

The brew now/brew later feature allows us to add the water and the coffee before we go to sleep and set the later function to start brewing when our alarm goes off in the morning. Total game changer, right?

    Holiday coffee blend

What kind of coffee is best?

Our favorite coffee for this blend is medium roast Sumatra! Sumatra coffee is considered a low-acidic coffee and it has a very enhanced mouthfeel.

We like it due to it's muted berry flavors and smooth mouthfeel. It pairs perfectly with the warming spices in this holiday blend and is wonderful for adding a bit of cream. The perfect fall or winter cup!

We also like to use medium-roast coffee. Dark roast can often times taste a bit burnt, while blond roasts won't have a deep enough coffee flavor.

You can find the Mr. Coffee® 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Dishwashable Design at your local Target! See the display below.

How to make holiday blend coffee

It's so easy! All you do is add the spices to the brew basket along with the coffee before you brew. That's it.

This holiday blend coffee also makes a fantastic Christmas gift! Add the ingredients in a mason jar and tie some ribbon around the top. VOILA. A homemade and thoughtful gift that any coffee lover would enjoy.

Pro tip: Give a jar of this homemade holiday coffee blend along with a Mr. Coffee® 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Dishwashable Design!

Love this! I'm a total sucker for holiday blends. I prefer them over holiday creamers for some reason. I think the flavors just seem toastier and richer when they're part of the actual blend. Anyway! This will have me making my own from now on! I love that I can get creative and control certain aspects of it (all. the. CINNAMON PLEASE.)

I've been something of a coffee purist for a long time - not because I dislike spices or flavours in coffee, but because I find flavoured blends to be generally awful things. I've never really thought about flavouring my own coffee though, and I must say it does have a great deal of wintry, warming, holiday charm. And yes - a DIY blend would make a lovely gift during the holidays, and it would be head-and-shoulders above the store-bought flavoured blends. Thanks for the inspiration!

I am so glad I came across this recipe -- because while we love a spice infused coffee -- it just so happens that our coffee maker is ON THE FRITZ. That's not a good thing when you're hosting the holidays. It was actually on my list to buy a new coffee maker before everyone arrives, so thank you so much for pointing this one out. I love that programmable feature too, because my husband and I go to the gym very early every morning and it would be so awesome to walk in the door and have the coffee done and waiting for us! Sold! Making this recipe for the family this weekend!

I have to have one of those coffee makers - how handy to wake up to delicious coffee. We always enjoyed Sumatra but didn't realize it was low in acid - perhaps that's why we liked it so much. Do you have a particular brand of Sumatra you like?

Oh wow I love this. I am a huge coffee fan but I have never tried adding spices to my coffee before. I have to admit I was a bit dubious, but this was just delicious, and so comforting!

We are coffee lovers....and certainly, need it Christmas morning LOL!! Loving the sound of the warm and tasty spices in this delicious blend. I know the house will smell amazing while this brews. I am pretty sure we will using this at the holiday parties too.
