Old fashioned pumpkin soda recipe made with real pumpkin! The perfect Halloween party drink for kids or non-alcoholic fall drink. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles!

    halloween drink pumpkin soda

It's Halloween party time! Let's get festive and make a non-alcoholic drink that the kiddos will love: pumpkin soda!

So, this soda is a bit out of the ordinary for this here blog, mainly due to the fact that it is SWEET! And I mean, like sugary soda sweet, not like, cool rad awesome sweet. Although, it's that too. Sweet all around! Think pumpkin spice cream soda.

A fun non-alcoholic Halloween party drink

How perfect is this pumpkin soda for a Halloween party? Mega-perfect.

Look how orange it is! It's easy to customize by adding sprinkles of your choice, colored straws, maybe even a candy topping like a chocolate witch or something. You do you!

It's a simple recipe made with a homemade pumpkin spice syrup. You just add soda water, whipped cream, and sprinkles to top it off and that's it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

You can either make individual sodas and have people top their own with whipped cream, or make a big batch in a pitcher!

Serve with a batch of these vegetarian mummy meatballs for such a fun Halloween spread!

    Let's make the pumpkin syrup

All the flavor for this soda comes from the pumpkin spice syrup. Easy to whip together and just a few ingredients.

It's a pumpkin spice version of a simple syrup. You'll just need water, sugar, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice.

    • First, combine the sugar and the water in a medium sauce pan and heat over medium heat.
    • When the sugar is dissolved, add the pumpkin puree. Whisk until completely dissolved.
    • Add the pumpkin pie spice and whisk until dissolved.
    • Remove from the heat and let cool for about 20 minutes.
    • Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth.

You can use this pumpkin spice syrup for anything really. Coffee, tea, pancakes. Anything you would want to sweeten up and add pumpkin spice flavor to. Wait...... now my brain is thinking up all SORTS of things! HA! Pumpkin spice hot toddy? Too far?

    Let's make the pumpkin soda

There are 2 ways we can make this soda: one cup at a time or a large batch in a pitcher.

    • To make individual glasses of soda: Fill a cup with 1oz of the pumpkin spice syrup and top with 6oz of cold soda or sparkling water. Give a good stir and top with whipped cream and your choice of toppings like sprinkles! This will make about 12 glasses.
    • To make a pitcher: Combine the pumpkin spice syrup and soda water in a large pitcher (or 2 pitchers if they are smaller). Give a good stir right before serving. I recommend letting people add their own whipped cream and toppings into their individual cups rather than adding whipped cream to the pitcher.

How to make pumpkin cream soda

This is absolutely delicious as a cream soda! Once the whipped cream starts to melt and blend in, you get that vibe anyways. BUT... you can skip all that and just make cream soda from the start.

To make a pumpkin cream soda, follow the instructions below, but add 1oz of heavy cream to your glass along with the 1oz of syrup. Stir those together before adding the soda water.

To make a pumpkin Italian cream soda, you will need to layer all of the ingredients a bit differently. First, add the 6oz of soda water to your glass. Then top with 1oz of the syrup and then top with 1oz of heavy cream. Leave it in layers like this and serve with whipped cream and a cherry or Halloween sprinkles.

    Ingredients

    For the pumpkin spice syrup

    • 1 cup water
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree
    • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

    For the soda

    • 72 ounces cold soda water or sparkling water (not tonic)*
    • Whipped cream for topping
    • Halloween sprinkles for topping (optional)

    Instructions

    For the pumpkin spice syrup

    • Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat. Add the pumpkin puree and the spice and stir until everything is dissolved. Do not boil. Remove from heat. Let cool for about 20 minutes.
    • Strain through a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth to remove the sediment.

    For the soda

    • Fill each glass with 1 ounce of the pumpkin syrup. Top with 6 ounces of soda water.** Top with whipped cream and sprinkles.
    • Alternatively, mix together the pumpkin syrup and the soda water in a large pitcher. Give a good stir before serving and allow guests to top their soda with whipped cream and sprinkles before drinking.

    Notes

*You could also add ice cubes to the soda to make it cold if your soda water is not cold.
**You can adjust the syrup to soda ratio depending on how sweet you'd like your drink. More syrup will make a sweeter drink.

These pumpkin spice sodas are so fun! I love the idea of making a pumpkin drink that is cold and bubbly rather than hot. Perfect punch bowl dessert for a Halloween party!

This is so much fun! Pumpkin spice has had a monopoly on the drink world for too long. Time to start drinking some actual pumpkin too! They're absolutely beautiful too. I can imagine a lot of fun ways to work with these (and a few interesting cocktail ideas to boot). Cheers!

What a great idea for the kiddos, both young and old. I know my daughter would have fun making this with her friends. Thanks for this recipe, saving this for later! How clever.

This is so unique! Sort of makes me think of butterbeer. This is such a great idea for halloween parties. Perfect for the kiddos, and if the adults want to spike it, well. I'm known to have a bottle of caramel vodka kickin' around in my pantry this time of year 😉 Might just have to try this when we host Friendsgiving!

We love all things pumpkin and I thought I'd tasted just about everything pumpkin. Well, the soda is a new one for me -- I would love to sample this great sounding beverage. I'm definitely making this for our family gathering -- the kids will love it.
