You guys. We are having an issue in our house these days. Little Rhubarbaby's digestion is totally out of whack. He started solid foods about a month ago, and man.... that little belly is working so hard to get all that food processed.

Let's just say.... baby gas-x is becoming a staple around these parts. He has always had stomach issues, and we've been trying so many things to help him out. Belly massages have seemed to help quite a bit, and he absolutely loves them at night right before bedtime, but giving him the right foods is turning out to be key.

You know what helps him... um... get things moving? These pureed prunes.

I had always heard that prune juice was amazing for babies who need help with belly stuff. But, I was skeptical about giving Rhubarbaby liquid sugar. It just didn't seem like the best way to go about it. So, I pureed some prunes. They were okay, but they just needed a little something extra to make them delicious. Something that WE would actually want to eat.

    So, I tried cinnamon.

HECK YES! The cinnamon knocked this out of the park. This prune puree is something that I totally eat too. It's amazing on yogurt. Delicious on toast. Total win for everyone in this house!! Plus, no added sweetener. Just 3 very whole ingredients. Prunes, water, and cinnamon. That's it.

I've made a handful of baby food recipes at this point that I would love to share!! Definitely going to start a new common theme here on the blog. Rhubarbaby food. Homemade, whole food baby food made with locally sourced, seasonal produce. I've already been feeding him some masala cauliflower that he loves, and some mega mega green herbed spinach puree.

Something that's important for me to point out here though: I am not a doctor or a dietician. I'm just a mom making recipes for my baby and sharing the successful ones with you. Please consult your pediatrician before feeding these recipes to your baby. Mmmmkay?

    Prep Time 5 minutes mins
    Cook Time 15 minutes mins
    Total Time 30 minutes mins
    Servings 1 cups

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup unsweetened prunes
    • 2 cups water
    • 2 6" cinnamon sticks, broken into 2-3 pieces

    Instructions

    • Bring all ingredients in a saucepan to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool 10 minutes.
    • Discard the cinnamon sticks and puree the prunes with the boiling liquid in a food processor or blender. This will take a few minutes, and possibly a few stirs to get all of those prunes pureed. If needed, add more water a tablespoon at a time.

    Notes

I like to give Rhubarbaby about a tablespoon of pureed prunes with dinner each night. I keep a few Tbsps of this puree in the fridge and freeze the rest in small batches. An ice cube tray works great for freezing small amounts!
Tried this recipe?Let us know how it was!

Know what else has helped out a TON? Using these amazingly adorable little baby food containers. I've been using this set to freeze out small amounts and keep only a few days worth of food in the fridge. So helpful! Totally recommended.

Alright, friends. Any recipes that I just HAVE to make for Rhubarbaby? Shout em out in the comments!

This recipe has been a life saver in our house! Our little one's tummy had trouble transitioning to solids and she was often backed up. She loves the taste of these prunes and they are so easy to make! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!

Oh, this looks lovely! My son really loves prunes/plums (and just about anything else that is sweet) so this would be a really fun way to change things up for him. Thanks for sharing!
