Hello friends! Guess what? It's my 3 year blogiversary! BOOYAH! I started this little blog on Nov 2nd, 2014. This vegan chai cocktail is an oldie but goodie, and one of my faves from the past 3 years. I thought I'd breathe new life into it by showing it's face to you again. Hope you enjoy!

So, I've got this awesome book sitting on my coffee table, Winter Cocktails by Maria Del Mar Sacasa. Know what it's full of?

    Things like:

English Christmas punch, pumpkin bourbon eggnog, and salted caramel hot chocolate.

Needless to say, this is my kinda book. It makes me want to drink fancy winter cocktails aaaaaaalllll day errrrrrday.

Have you tried this blood orange cocktail with gin and rosemary yet?

It inspired me to make this cocktail, a warm and cozy vegan chai with whiskey and fresh orange juice. It took me several times to hone this one. I'm usually a regular unsweetened, plain almond milk drinker, but for this one the sweetened vanilla almond milk is key.

Mmmmmmmm....... not too sweet, not too spicy, not too boozy, so yes, I can drink it in the afternoon, which I did when I made the one in the photo.

    YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!

Livin the dream guys, livin the dream.

    Total Time 10 mins
    Servings 1 cup

    Ingredients

    • 8 oz sweetened vanilla almond milk
    • 1 Β½ tsps loose leaf chai tea (or 1 tea bag)
    • 1 oz whiskey
    • 1 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
    • slice of orange and cinnamon stick for garnish (optional) orange , and cinnamon stick for garnish (optional)

    Instructions

    • Heat almond milk in a small saucepan until just beginning to bubble. Do not boil. Remove from heat and stir in tea. Let steep for 2-3 minutes.* Meanwhile, pour whiskey and orange juice into a mug.
    • When tea is steeped, strain over a fine mesh strainer or remove tea bag. Pour chai over whiskey and orange juice.
    • Stir well and top with a tiny dash of cinnamon. Garnish with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

    Notes

*Do not steep for any longer than 3 minutes, as your tea can easily become bitter if steeped too long.

I actually used Bulleit rye. A good bourbon would be good too!

Uh, YES to this. My MIL *just* gave me three tins of different types of loose leaf chai last night, and we have plenty of whiskey at home, so this is perfect timing. Sooooo making this ASAP.
