Are you ready for all the healthy, January eats yet? This green detox smoothie is sure to fit into ANY diet you decide to take on after the holidays. It’s basically everything you could want to eat pureed together. Greens, herbs, apple, banana, pear, and lemon juice. Sounds pretty detox-y, right?
Seriously, If you’re looking for a fresh start in January, I recommend the Vegan Weight Loss Manifesto from Active Vegetarian. It’s intended to be used as a weight loss program, but it seems to me to be more of a clean, whole foods, vegan diet plan to keep you as healthy as you can be.
This book is an 8-week plan to change your mindset, lose weight, and thrive. Sounds pretty awesome. It’s written as a week-by-week complete guide to help you stay on track and hold on to those healthy goals. Complete with tips, fitness schedules, lifestyle assignments, and of course, recipes.
I really really liked the fact that carbs are a huge part of the recipes in this book. I’m pretty turned off by very strict diets that eliminate carbs. Gotta have whole grains, right? Soooo… yeah. This isn’t your usual get skinny fast diet. It’s based more on changing your habits, your mindset really. The only way to be sustainable in my opinion. There’s a quote on the back, “transform your body and mind with the power of plants.” YESSSSSS!
Some of my favorite recipes were the nutty lime carrot salad, hummus soup, and kitchari (a sort of Indian version of chili).
I decided to share this green detox smoothie because of how versatile and approachable it is. You can really make it seasonal and add so many different greens, fruits, and veggies. I’ve actually been a bit of a smoothie rut, and needed something new to inspire me. I’ve been sticking to the same pumpkin smoothie for months now, but winter is coming (hehe), and with the changing seasons, the smoothie needs an update.
I was surprised at how much I loved this smoothie. I followed the recipe exactly, and don’t usually add quite that many greens and herbs. I’m a fruit girl through and through. But, the greens were totally mellowed out by the fruit in there. And it didn’t taste like banana! Yay!
Glowing green detox smoothie recipe from the Vegan Weight Loss Manifesto! Get your daily dose of dark leafy greens any time of day. Alkalizing, cleansing, anti-aging.
- 4 cups organic greens of your choice (feel free to mix kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, etc)
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley
- 2 cups filtered water
- 1 medium apple, cored and chopped
- 1 medium pear, cored and chopped
- 1 medium banana, frozen or fresh
- 1 medium lemon, juiced
- ice, if desired
Fill your high-speed blender with all of the greens and herbs. Add the water and blend until liquefied. Add the apple, pear, banana, and lemon juice and ice if desired. Blend again until smooth and enjoy!
